What is the Help at HomeService?

Our Help at Home Service is designed to help support older clients with general household tasks, thus enabling them to maintain their independence in a home of their own choosing.

What sort of jobs can the Help at HomeScheme provide help with?

The tasks clients most commonly need help with are:

  • Vacuuming
  • Dusting
  • General tidying
  • Light laundry
  • Ironing
  • Dish washing
  • Changing beds
  • Preparing light meals.

If there is anything else that a client needs help with, we would be prepared to discuss it with them, but we are unable to provide help with personal care or transport.

Who provides the actual service?

Our team of Home Workers are in fact self employed but Age UK Bromsgrove recruits them to the team, asks them to provide references and to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check, offers them training and provides then with insurance cover and basic health and safety equipment. Clients are then matched to a suitable Home Worker from our team. Once a Home Worker has been matched with one or more Clients a member of staff from Age UK Bromsgrove keeps in touch with both Client and Home Worker and offers support as required.

How often can Home Workers call?

The length of time each Home Worker spends with each client is negotiable as is the day of the week on which they visit the Client.

How much does the service cost? Home Workers are asked to charge each client £12.50 per hour, paid directly to the Home Worker at the end of the session.  £8.50 is kept by the Home Worker who then forward £4.00 to Age UK Bromsgrove to cover their administration costs.   Clients do not receive any assistance from Social Services Department with these payments.

Who can use the Help at Home Service? You can take advantage of this service if:

  • You are over 50 years of age
  • You live in Bromsgrove and District
  • You have received a ‘Well Check’ assessment or a Community Care Assessment and the need for help with household tasks has been identified. For information on how to be refered for a Well Check Assessment click here.
