Weekend activities at Blackmore House, School Lane, Bromsgrove

Age Concern, Bromsgrove & District offers a Weekend Day Care facility at Blackmore House in Bromsgrove on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.

All of the clients who attend our Weekend Day Care have some measure of mental health problem. Some are experiencing memory loss or confusion due to an illness or a stroke, others an enduring mental illness such as dementia. For this reason we have a limit of 8 clients on each day.

Referrals are made by Health or Social Care professionals. Carers who wish to investigate whether a referral is possible can contact the Duty Team for Older People at the Bromsgrove Office of the Social Services Department by telephoning [01527] 575855.

On a typical Saturday or Sunday at Blackmore House some clients arrive by taxi, some by minibus. The minibus leaves Blackmore House at 10am, enabling group members to be collected anytime between 10am and 11am. On arrival at Blackmore House we start the day with a cup of coffee and a chat to catch up on the week’s news. This is followed by, for example, a reminiscence session.

Lunch is served at approximately 12.30pm and we then have a variety of activities during the afternoon, for example:

• Sharing a newspaper or a favourite magazine
• A game of cards or a selection of games
• Craft work
• Watching a video or T.V.

At 3.30pm a light tea is served – sandwich and a cake plus a drink and the return journey by minibus or taxi starts at 4pm.

Charging for this service is dealt with directly by Social Services Community Care Finance Team, the maximum charge at present being £8.15 per day.
