Age Concern Bromsgrove & District does not just deliver services to local people over the age of 50 years, we actively encourage such 'older' people to become involved in local activities, to maintain an active lifestyle, to access modern technology, and, through volunteering, to contribute to our goal of improving the quality of life of all local older people – as volunteer Trustees, Information Advisors, Sitters, Befrienders, IT Tutors, Activity Group Leaders, and Handypersons.

Age Concern Bromsgrove & District works within an area of benefit defined by the administrative boundaries of Bromsgrove District Council. This includes the market town itself and the surrounding rural areas and villages.

Age Concern Bromsgrove & District is led by a voluntary Executive Committee with a Chair and Treasurer supported by eight Trustees and four non voting representatives from the Statutory Authorities and the Bromsgrove Action Group for Older People.

At the start of 2010 AGE Concern Bromsgrove & District had 17 employed staff, all part time [5.9 FTE], including a Chief Officer, Managers for each of the four main areas of our work -

Information & Advice

Care Services

Home Services

Participation.

                                   - a Minor Repairs Technician, an Occupational Therapy Technician, and a team of 6 Care Assistants.

Volunteers, numbering at the time of writing 65 [in addition to the 10 Trustees] are involved in all aspects of our work; indeed, we simply could not deliver our core services, and in particular Information & Advice and 'Care Call' (our face to face and telephone befriending service), without them.

In addition to these our team of houseworkers [31 of them at the time of writing], who are linked to us through our 'Housework Brokerage', continues to grow.

Athough we use other facilities within the District, our administion office and Information Centre are located at 51 Windsor Street in the centre of Bromsgrove town.

Our Admin office is normally open Monday to Friday between 9.00am and at least 4.00pm. Our Information Centre is currently open between 10.00am and 1.00pm on Monday to Thursday for personal and telephone callers. Outside of these hours messages can be left on our answerphones - 01527 871840 for Admin and 01527 570490 for Information and Advice.

The number of older people accessing our services in any given year totals approximately 5400. These being split between service areas as follows:

Information & Advice approx 3000

Well Check approx 650

Home Services [inc. Occupational Therapy Assessments, Housework Brokerage & and referrals to our Traders Register] approx 1500

Care Services approx 100

Participation approx 150

Feedback from our service users is consistently positive with comments such as the following:

“ Staff very caring and helpful, nice to meet people that care” [Day Care]

“ Time and care were taken in answering my questions, the staff were very helpful. I would not fail to ask for help.” [Information Centre]

“We would like to thank all members of staff for their courtesy and efficiency in dealing with our problem (and also for the cups of tea).” [Information Centre]

In October 2008 we reached agreement with Bromsgrove District Council for us to manage the use of Amphlett Memorial Hall in Crown Close, Bromsgrove, on behalf of the District Council and the Hall Management Committee. There were at that time a number of existing user groups and we have been pleased to develop a supportive relationship with them. Their and our activities still leave several spaces in any given week when the Hall is currently available for use by other Groups working with or for local older people.  We would, therefore, like to hear from any other local ‘not for profit’ group that works with or for older people and who think that they may be able to utilise one or more of the available spaces.

For further information on our activities, or on Amphlett Hall, or to discuss joining our team as a volunteer please contact:
