Age Concern Herefordshire & Worcestershire values the contribution volunteers make to our organisation. We pursue a vigorous equal opportunities policy and actively encourage and welcome volunteers of diverse ages and genders, as well as social, cultural and religious backgrounds.
TrainingWe offer an extensive range of training opportunities, and all volunteers receive the training they need to enable them to carry out their chosen roles effectively and with confidence. We also provide on-going training, and support, to help make your time with Age Concern Herefordshire & Worcestershire an enjoyable one. Other benefitsWe will cover all out-of-pocket and travelling expenses incurred whilst volunteering. We also hold regular social occasions, because volunteering should be fun! Volunteering OpportunitiesBelow is a list of volunteering opportunities. If you are interested in becoming involved with any of them, or if you want to speak to us about other possible opportunities to volunteer, please contact us. A Call In TimeVolunteers provide a telephone support service for older people during key times of transition, such as after bereavement, or leaving hospital. This is not a helpline, and volunteers make, but do not receive calls, working from home if desired or our Pershore office, as this service operates 7 days a week. Church Street Day Centre, EveshamVolunteers help at our day centre, for older people with dementia, in numerous roles, such as helping at the day centre, driving the mini-bus, and collecting meals, using their own vehicles. Drybridge House Day Centre, HerefordVolunteers help at our day centre for frail older people in various capacities. EnergyRightVolunteers conduct free EnergyRight home energy efficiency checks for people over 50 across our area. Tips on saving money and energy in the home are also given. Ethnic Minorities Elders’ ProjectVolunteers work with this project in roles such as helping at our weekly Saathi lunch club for Asian elders. Footcare SchemeAfter both theoretical and practical training volunteers provide a nail cutting and foot checking service for older people, at a number of clinics across Worcestershire. Handyperson/Gardening SchemeVolunteers visit older people in their own homes, in South Wychavon, and carry out various gardening and DIY jobs. The initial assessment is free, and a charge is made for materials, and any work carried out. Information & Advice ServicesVolunteers are fully trained to be able to give accurate, appropriate and relevant information in person and over the phone. IT TrainingVolunteers with a good working knowledge of computers give one-to-one, one-off, taster sessions for people over 50, help at our Computer Cafe, and with IT training courses for the over 50s. Reception & Relief Reception CoverVolunteers provide all-day cover on the reception desk of our Sansome Street office, and also step in, sometimes at short notice, to cover in cases of illness and holidays. Sitting ServiceVolunteers sit with a client for two to three hours per week, or fortnight, on a pre-arranged basis, giving carers who are family or friends a short respite break (click here for more information). |
