Training

We offer an extensive range of training opportunities, and all volunteers receive the training they need to enable them to carry out their chosen roles effectively and with confidence.

We also provide on-going training, and support, to help make your time with Age Concern Herefordshire & Worcestershire an enjoyable one.

Other benefits

We cover all out-of-pocket and travelling expenses incurred whilst volunteering. We also hold regular social occasions, because volunteering should be fun!

Volunteering Opportunities

Below is a list of volunteering opportunities. If you are interested in becoming involved with any of them, or if you want to speak to us about other possible opportunities to volunteer, please contact us.

A Call In Time

Volunteers provide a telephone support service for older people during key times of transition, such as after bereavement, or leaving hospital. This is not a helpline, and volunteers make but do not receive calls, working from home if desired or our Pershore office, as this service operates 7 days a week.

Admin

Volunteers provide invaluable support at our offices at Lower Wick, helping with all areas of work in our busy Admin department.

Church Street Day Centre, Evesham

Volunteers help at our day centre, for older people with dementia, in numerous roles, such as helping at the day centre, driving the mini-bus, and collecting meals using their own vehicles.

Drybridge House Day Centre, Hereford

Volunteers help at our day centre for frail older people in various capacities.

Evesham Access Centre

Volunteers help in a number of ways at our Access Centre in Port Street, Evesham, including covering reception and giving infomation and advice.

Falls Prevention

Volunteers will support a trainer to maintain good health and safety in delivery of strength and balance exercise classes, followed by an information session and refreshments, to groups of about 15 older people.

Volunteers need to be mobile, physically able and with no significant sight or hearing impairments. An interest in exercise and fitness or a qualification is essential.

Footcare Scheme

After both theoretical and practical training volunteers provide a nail cutting and foot checking service for older people at a number of clinics across Worcestershire.

Greenagers and Gardening Circles

Volunteers support people who may be having difficulties maintaining their own gardens and also at our allotment in Pershore.

Joining a Gardening Circle is a great way to help people to remain independent, get some exercise and make new friends.

Handyperson/Gardening Scheme

Volunteers visit older people in their own homes in South Wychavon, and carry out various gardening and DIY jobs. The initial assessment is free, and a charge is made for materials, and any work carried out.

Improving Reach

Volunteers work with this project in roles such as outreach work, helping to organise events and festivals, assisting at exercise classes, teaching English and helping with the admin of the project.

Information & Advice Services

Volunteers are fully trained to be able to give accurate, appropriate and relevant information in person and over the phone.

We are looking for volunteers who would like to be trained to provide support on benefits and carers issues.

We are also looking for volunteers who are computer literate and who would be willing to input data onto our database, manage the Information and Advice library, produce reports and help with filing.

IT Training

Volunteers with a good working knowledge of computers give one-to-one, one-off, taster sessions for people over 50, help at our Computer Cafe, and with IT training courses for the over 50s.

Reception & Relief Reception Cover

Volunteers provide all-day cover on the reception desk of our Malvern Gate, Bromwich Road office in Worcester, and also step in, sometimes at short notice, to cover in cases of illness and holidays.
