Volunteering with Age Concern Ledbury & District Print E-mail

Working with Age Concern can be a very rewarding and enjoyable experience.

We offer a range of services to our clients and would not be able to do so without our loyal band of volunteers.  Volunteers are the life blood of the voluntary sector.

Your time, skills and enthusiasm can make a very big difference to the lives of older people. You can give as much or as little time as you wish but we do ask you to make a regular commitment of your time e.g. 2 hours a week, so that we can plan our schedule in line with everyone else's needs. We do offer training and support for all activities.

As you will be working with older vulnerable people, you will need to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check as part of your induction process. This is a free service and we can guide you through the simple process.

Once this is completed we will introduce you to the team and get you started.

At the moment we have vacancies for the following:

  • Mini-bus drivers - (Outings and day trips) We provide full training to all applicants. Usually drivers are required for only one or two days per month. You get free entry to all attractions where appropriate.
  • Befrienders - to make contact either by 'phone or personal visit with clients who are isolated or lonely. Occasional shopping trips are sometimes needed.
  • Footcare - to provide a toe nail cutting service to people who cannot do it for themselves on one or two mornings a month. This is carried out in a proper clinic and does not require home visits. Full training is provided by a qualified podiatrist.
  • Lunch Club helpers - to assist with the serving of food and generally offer a friendly welcome to all club members.
  • EnergyRight volunteers - to assist with implementing the EnergyRight Home Check visits. Full training is provided and expenses are paid.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please call us on 01531 631280.
